DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?
A testimony of healing by Jerome Richard
Prior to March 7, 2001 my vision was very nearsighted with a -9.25 diopters
in one eye and a –8.25 diopters in the other eye with a visual acuity of
20/400. I had heard over the past few years that I would be a good candidate
for Lasik eye surgery to correct my vision using a laser. It was not a guarantee
of perfect vision. I was told that due to my high prescription and my age
that I should expect results of 20/40 or 20/30 and that I would need reading
glasses.
On the morning of March 7, 2001 I had the surgery done in Portland, ME. Everything
appeared to go well and the next morning I could see 20/30 with no problems.
This was to be the last time I would see that well for the next 16 weeks!
Soon afterwards my vision started to disintegrate. After 11 days I was seeing
double vision in my right eye and then in 22 days I was seeing double vision
in my left eye. Night driving started to become very difficult because of
extreme glare, halos, and double vision. My visual acuity started to slip
from 20/30 to eventually 20/200. I became farsighted with about a +3.0 diopters.
The doctor kept on telling me it was edema in the beginning and it would
clear up, but I finally demanded to see a specialist in Boston, which I saw
about 8 weeks from the surgery.
The specialist said that it was not edema, which is a temporary condition
and that it does not cause the problems that I was experiencing. Instead,
it was a very dangerous condition called DLK, which leads to permanent eye
damage. I was told that the only way to restore my vision at this point was
to wear hard contact lenses since glasses could not eliminate all the damage
done by Lasik eye surgery.
I called other doctors to get help and I got back on the Internet to find
some solution. All the answers came back the same – “The technology does
not exist to correct the damage”. My old doctor in Tennessee said that the
only way that much damage could be corrected was “if God were to smile on
you”. As you could image I was not in a good frame of mind and my future
was very uncertain. I would be left a Lasik causality with only the use of
hard contact lenses to correct my vision and no idea what the long-term effects
were to be.
For five weeks I struggled to wear the hard contacts which are uncomfortable
to wear. A lot of my friends and family members supported me with their prayers.
I refused to believe that I would be left with my sight the way it was; that
is not to say I didn’t get depressed and angry.
On June 20 I had an eye check-up which showed that I was still 20/200, double
vision in each eye, glare, halos, irregular astigmatism, and the rest of
the defects.
BUT on Sunday, June 24 I walked into the church that my wife
and I attend and everything changed!
I got up that morning of June 24 with the same poor vision and I put my contacts
in and drove my wife to church. I had the contacts in for about one hour
when all of a sudden both of my eyes got extremely irritated while sitting
in the church. So I decided to take them out and put them back in at the
end of the church service. After I took them out I gentle rubbed my eyes
and then sat back.
When I first looked around the church I didn’t expect to see much and it
took a few seconds before I noticed I could see! My vision was great, clear,
no double vision, glare, or anything in either eye. I thought
maybe it was a temporary condition caused by the contacts. I left church
without telling my wife anything and I drove home without wear the contacts.
By Wednesday, June 27 I couldn’t stand it any longer and I called my Optometrist
to get an eye exam arranged for Friday, June 29. I was just hoping to see
20/30 or 20/40 so I would not have to wear the contacts in order to drive.
At the eye exam they determined that I could see 20/20 both up close and
far away. I still was not experiencing the double vision, glare, or other
defects that I had before June 24. The doctor was blown away by the instant
change in vision.
On July 17 my eye surgeon looked at my eyes and they had reviewed the record
of my exam on June 29. They also determined that I could see 20/20 in both
eyes and still no defects such as the double vision and glare. Both my distance
vision and near vision were 20/20. One doctor wrote on my file that “it can’t
get any better than this”. Another written note in my file says “miraculous
change of vision in church on Sunday”. Even this doctor said, “If you had
not said it happened in church, I would not have believed it was a miracle”.
Now let me ask you this. How can BOTH eyes be healed instantly?
I went from 20/200 to 20/20, from being farsighted to neutral, the double
vision in both eyes disappeared, the glare and halos are gone, all that stuff
disappeared suddenly.
